Aletha Ens - Owner/Tax Professional
I have been in accounting for 25+ years with various, yet extensive, work in many accounting fields. I am Certified by California to prepare all the various tax returns and am well versed in personal and business taxes, Quickbooks, various double entry systems, payroll and creating better accounting systems for all types of businesses. I have 2 bachelor degrees, one in Marine Biology and one in Accounting. Yes, a drastic change, but the science and nature keep me sane and the numbers and logic come easy to me.
My accounting career started as a bookkeeper for a small government contractor, went on to running full accounting departments for an investment firm and then a manufacturing company in Los Angeles, followed by three years of tax accounting for a CPA on the central coast. As I progressed in my job preparing taxes for another business's clients and helping grow his business, I decided it was time for me to spread my wings and fly. Of course, with quite a bit of encouragement from colleagues and friends, as they knew my skill set much better than I in a time of change and of the unknown, I took a leap of faith and am growing every day. It has been very rewarding 15+ years thus far and hope to continue on this path as we grow the company.
For those that know me - thanks for the encouragement and wonderful referrals...they are my bread and butter. For those of you that don't know me yet...I pride myself on wonderful business ethics, friendliness, my accounting knowledge, my desire to help others, and my down to earth nature. I grew up on the Central Coast and have lived in the area most of my life. I enjoy everything this area has to offer from the amazing adventures outdoors to the great local businesses and communities.
I started my accounting career over 10 years ago at Layered Accounting as a Bookkeeper while following my path in school for Accounting & Business. Aletha was the best mentor anyone could ask for and I was grateful to be part of her growing business for 5 years. I was away for a few years and found my way back to Layered Accounting where I am excited to work with the great clients I have missed and meet new ones.
I enjoy working with businesses from all industries and helping them succeed. I enjoy being able to take the stress of the accounting aspects from the business owners so that they can focus on their business and what they love to do.
Stephanie Knoop - Bookkeeper
Hi. I am Stephanie Knoop – Here’s a little about me - I am now happily married for 20 years to an amazing man, with two beautiful and very artistic daughters. Life has been pretty kind to me so far – However, I am going to be completely honest when I say: I never envisioned myself where I sit today. And by that, I mean sitting at a desk, in front of a computer in an accounting office - solving complex math riddles and organizing company’s books, and everything else that my job as Accounting Assistant at Layered Accounting entails. Raised with discipline and hard work (rare for an only child), my father owning and running a local coffee shop – I earned my experience and the complete operations of a business from the ground, up. But it wasn’t until a previous employer sold the business that I was just sort of forced into the Business Accounting aspects of it all.
With over 20 years of various business, management, and bookkeeping skills, I am very confident and proud I am working at Layered Accounting and assisting Aletha with all of your business needs.
Jennifer Thomas - Bookkeeper
I grew up on the Central Coast and have lived out on Lake Nacimiento for the last few years. I love everything this town has to offer, being on the lake with my boyfriend, and spending time with my family.
My accounting journey started a few years ago in a small electricians’ office where I learned a lot from a great mentor. I haven’t always been one with numbers, but accounting isn’t just about numbers. It’s also about dealing with puzzles, taking stress off business owners, solving problems and helping others. I love every aspect of it. I’ve worked as an admin assistant/bookkeeper in a few different fields before landing a spot on the Layered Accounting team. I feel extremely grateful to be working for Aletha and the Layered Accounting crew where I get to learn something new everyday and be under a great mentorship while growing in my career.
While working, I am also continuing in my education and finishing my degree. I’m almost done with my bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting and will continue on to get my master’s degree in accounting in hopes of taking the CPA exam!
